NEW DELHI: Former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was on Tuesday granted two-day interim bail by a Delhi court in in case of alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers. The court also granted interim bail to Vinod Tomar, another accused in the case. Both the accused got interim bail on a bond of Rs 25,000 each. The court will hear arguments for their regular bail plea on Thursday.
Delhi police had filed a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar, suspended assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India, on June 15.
The chargesheet against the six-time MP Singh was filed under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
Tomar was charged with offences under IPC sections 109 (abetment of any offence, if the act abetted is committed in consequence, and where no express provision is made for its punishment), 354, 354A and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Taking cognisance of the chargesheet, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal had directed both the accused to appear before the court on July 18.
During the hearing, counsel for Brij Bhushan Singh alleged media trial. The judge said the counsel may move an application before the high court or trial court and an appropriate order will be passed on the application.
The counsel, however, did not move any application in this regard.
